Production date markings on C calipers
I haven't noticed any but I was curious to know if there is a date stamp or marking on the caliper body. Curious to know if my calipers are original to the car if they've been replaced at some time during it's life.

Re: Production date markings on C calipers
I've seen a few numbers on C calipers but didn't seem to be any sort of a date code. I would suggest you call Eric at PMB for that question.

Re: Production date markings on C calipers
I just finished restoring a set of Ate calipers from a 8/65 912 and there was definitely a date stamp on them - week/year. Very small and lightly stamped .....

Re: Production date markings on C calipers
Anybody have photos of the markings on the calipers?
Larger question might be: How to tell the difference in 356C calipers vs early 911 calipers?

These are the markings on the 8/65 912 calipers
Same as the C calipers I believe .... 185 - 18th week of 65

Your 912 calipers are not the same as 356C calipers. In fact, there is another caliper that was used between your caliper and a 356C or very early 64 911. I have found date stamps on the 912/911 rear calipers but nothing on any 356 caliper that I have rebuilt (100S of them). Yes, the stampings are very light and borderline unreadable. ATE places just about as much importance on date stamps as I do. Who gives a darn? If you want examples of calipers I would be happy to post pictures.

Re: Production date markings on C calipers
Thanks for straightening me out on that
I’m too lazy to crawl under my C to look, so I’ll take your word on the no date stamp =8^)

Post a picture of your calipers. Many 356Cs have had their calipers replaced with later versions of ATE calipers. 356C calipers are very unique in appearance.

I would think that the manufacturer would be very interested in the production date for quality control purposes.Jim Breazeale wrote:I have found date stamps on the 912/911 rear calipers but nothing on any 356 caliper that I have rebuilt (100S of them). Either way, I've found the date codes on the front and rear calipers for my C. 463 on all 4 corners.

Re: Production date markings on C calipers
I found markings on the fronts of a 65C, the rears do not have stamped markings in this car.
For the fronts 514 , on the rears there is only a cast marking.

I guess I'm going to eat some crow. Unfortunately, I don't have any calipers from a C in the shop at the moment.

Ha! Not at all. I'm a detail freak and enjoy the hunt for details. 99.99999% of the people out there couldn't care less about whether they're dated or not. I'm the 0.000001% that does. I'd prefer to have my date coded calipers back from PMB rather than traded in as cores.Jim Breazeale wrote:I guess I'm going to eat some crow. FWIW, I'm the same guy that tracked down a date coded generator and fuel pump. I like the challenge. I'm that guy.
Thanks for your input.

Dave, With all good wishes for your speedy return to health...BTW, have you investigated the date stamp issue on valve caps?
