Does anyone have an original (authentic) 1953 tool kit who will post a few photos of the tools and tool bag?

Thanks in advance,

Tom Scott

Hi Tom,

What part of 1953 are you interested in? There were 2 maroon canvas bags used in the 1st half of 1953 (10+3 pockets and 8+3 pockets) and then the grey vinyl bag (8+3 pockets) in the 2nd half.

Here's the kit for 51465 from Dec 1953. It was a factory test car through 1954, so it's possible some items were added later, such as the screwdriver(s). But it looks correct to me.

Hi James, Thanks for the prompt reply and photo. Would it be possible to remove all of the tools from the kit and take a couple of photos of them?
Thanks again.

Tom

Sorry Tom, this is not my kit. Just a photo lifted from an auction of a car that sold last year. It is pretty close to other period kits I've seen though.

The only thing I'm uncertain about is when they introduced the red Jörg screwdriver (replacing the black one) and when they discontinued the small beige stubby. I've never seen an original authenticated beige stubby. I believe the beige stubby had a finer tip than the red stubby. Without it, I don't know how one would change fuses in the fuse box, because the red one doesn't fit. Red one is good for adjusting carbs.

Tom,
This is the kit that I have assembled for my 53 coupe. This kit is not without a few issues. The Hazet spark plug wrench has damage and is the 15mm version logo instead of the 20mm Hazet logo. The spare lug nut is an after market and not an original lug nut. The tommy bar for the spark plug wrench does not have the Hazet logo or the central machining marks. The fan belt is not the right date code. The hammer is missing the decal. The shade of blue is probably to light of a blue on the pliers. The Mesko tire gauge is missing the little tag. The bag and the fuel dip stick are reproductions. 50199 was a February 1953 car and the change to the 8 pocket bags was somewhere around July of 1953. I have also posted an 8 pocket bag that may not have correct tools. I have started a previous thread to discuss the finer details of each tool under the pre A section. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=41806
