Bosch Blue Tip Antenna

I noticed 2 different style bases on the Bosch Blue tip antennas. 1 has an oblong base and the other is round. Does anyone know which is the earliest style used or the approx years they were used? Just wondering.

Herewith photos of the original blue tip antenna of my unrestored dolphin grey 65C cab.
Earlier cars may have had somewhat different blue tip antenna configurations and mountings.

My 8.11.62 B coupe has the round base as shown in the attached photos. I have owned the car since 73. This is the antenna that was on the car at that time.

Wil, I was wondering if it was supposed to be that close to the edge of the panel. Then I saw that they almost missed the holes through the hinge support, is that common? Do you know if yours is factory or dealer installed?

Here's another question regarding the antenna: where is the hole for the cable located? I suspect different locations depending upon whether the antenna was factory or dealer installed.

If the antenna had a round base instead of an oblong base, the base would have been further from the edge - such as Peter's with the same factory fender hole location.

I just noticed that my blue tip vintage late 62 does not have a metal cap. It is all Bakelite or whatever material was used in the 60s.

My 65 C, Miss April, has the same type as Wil's 65 C.

I have the remains of a blue-tip, oblong-base antenna, identical to those pictured above, with a date code of "404" (April 1964).

I've read that the the stainless "hat" was added at some point to the Bosch antenna because the resin "Blue tip" (which turns a turquoise color with patina) were breaking.

Thanks to Mike Wilson and Ed Rutherford (Klasse356) I was able to get the parts I needed for my Blue Tip antenna.

Peter, what are you calling the metal cap? The part closest to the fender? Thanks, Ed

The rounded piece with the two notches at the very top of the antenna. They are soldered to the top section of the mast and break off easily.
