I think anybody that would tow a 356 in the Rockies with a VW bus would be crazy enough to push it with a tow bar. I like it!

How about this one, wish it was my day, it wasn't.

Interestingly, I was going through old picture files and found the attached! (Please pardon the lack of proper rotation of them. I can't get the pdf versions to rotate!)

It was at a car show at Dunkle's back in the late 90s! Quite a set up!

Hi Wayne

That is Larry Markham's custom built trailer. It is still in use today. He just towed it up to the recent Emory Campout with the same 61 T5B Cab. Went from Somas, Ca to McMinnville, Or. and back.

Regards

Jim

My dad drove east from San Francisco to Boston in 1959 using a small utility trailer similar to what Pascal shows above. The hitch was a triangular affair that mounted to the transmission hoop, and then to the bumper mounts. These parts were around the back yard for many years. I admired the diamond tread Goodyear tires on the small trailer.

I wonder why the hood and doors on that red tow car in the picture of Adam’s have what looks like duct tape on them?

The car was a rollover, but still ran and drove. So they rigged it to make it home from VA to CA, lots of hammering and tape. It was probably a fun ride home!

Makes sense.

Hey,...didn’t Otto Mathe drag his fetzenflieger around with a Gmund?

(Now there’s an esoteric phrase of automobile idiosyncrotosity if I’ve ever heard one, haha.)

According to Weldon the buyer George Valerio came out to buy the cab and then made a deal for the Spyder too, they hustled and made the cab driveable and a tow vehicle in a couple of long days. I wish I had been around in those days, pick up a Spyder, you know, just cause....

Maybe it’s just me, but that red cab looks like a C to me. The front hood looks kind of “squarish”, looks like twin grills and the hubcaps look rather flat. Just sayin’...

I used to tow my Lotus S7 with my 1962 356B 1600S Coupe from Boston to Bridgehampton to Bryar to Lime Rock in 1965--67. It meant full throttle in third going up some of those freeway hills but the temp gauge never got beyond half way. I've often wondered what it takes to get the temp gauge over to the red. I've still got the engine, and it was clean with everything in spec when I took it apart at 95K miles years ago. Since then it's got about 35K miles on it. My trailer hitch was a copy of the factory one.

The Great Jenks towed his motorcycle on a trailer behind his 356A using a transverse bracket with right angle arms extending into the rear bumper bracket openings. Photo on request from his book, Porsche 356

The little Eriba Puck trailers weigh under 950 lbs loaded with gear so its not inconceivable. I towed mine all over the southeast with my diesel Land Rover.
