Hex bolt and washer at the top of each door. 356C. Painted?
At the top of each door just below the glass is a hex bolt and washer that are sometimes body coloured painted and sometimes original silver.
Heres a photo.
The factory liked a paint brush to dab about as the cars rolled forward and various areas like the jack point would have had a quick 1 coat touch up. Same with the bolts on the hood hinges ( which are often not painted either on restorations). So, did they paint this bolt as well?
I think the answer is yes but lets see.

Can't tell from the picture but I assume this is the bolt/washer combo on the rear (latch side) of the door?Brad Ripley wrote:Painted.

This Bolt is a Special
Porsche Part Number 900 189 002 02 and described as a Round Head Screw AM 6 x 15 Din 7986-4S
It is actually a Hex Bolt with a `slightly` domed top
A standard 6 x 15 Hex Head Bolt has a different Din Number - Din 933-8g
As Brad states these were Painted (Body colour) and is one of the many items touched up with a brush on final assembly

As Mike Smith said this is a specially shaped bolt with domed head. Hard to tell from your photo if you have the correct one. It is available: http://www.stoddard.com/64454248100.html

When we removed the door Panels - these special bolts had been used in EVERY location where it was possible to use them
I guess Fritz just took a handful from the box and went for it

I made my own when restoring the doors on my car. Chucked a bolt in a lathe (you could use a drill too, held in a vice) and used a hand held sander/grinder to shape the head while it was spinning in the lathe. Very easy and cheap

The special bolt is also available from Porsche Classic. It is correctly describe as a lens shaped bolt.
The washer underneath is also a special washer. I will try and find the number when I get get back from the sucessful Registry Heartland holiday.
This bolt is my "thing" to look at on any restoration, in addition to the incorrect use of non slotted screws holding the headlight rims. Just my 2 cents...............

In addition to the kit, you will need five DIN 9021 flat washers.
They're zinc plated and painted will hold pretty well. But, as Mike pointed out, maybe the paint won't stick as well. Of course, the paint should chip off just like the originals, don't you think, Mike?
The head of the bolt is rounded and painted probably so it didn't "stick out like a sore thumb" on the end of the door. Also, on the inside of door, if the usual taller-headed normal hex head bolt were used, the upholstery might be compromised. --- the long story for just a bolt!

It appears that one of these bolt/spring washer/flat washer combos goes on the front (hinge side, through an access hole under the rubber moving) and the rear (latch side). Cannot tell from the schematic in the Porsche Katalog pdf however where others might go. IE, in your kit, why are there 5? Five per door? FYI, the supplied bolts of the kit fit perfectly inside the door, but are too long at the door edge, and when snugged up, interfere with the window operation. I recently disassembled window regulators for a '63 cab. They had the domed bolts holding the rear window channel to the door.
