1963/4 Coupe speaker pod sound deadening

#1 Post by lee callaghan »

The factory installed sound insulation in each of the speaker pod units behind the speakers themselves. This would have been the horsehair and shape moulded type and then lightly glued in as they were wedged into the small area. Most full restorations neglect to replace the sound deadening which is why radios sound so poor in our cars. Pull out your speakers and see whats behind them. For the speakers to work fully, they need material to bounce off into the car. I rarely use my radio as Im too busy listening to the fabulous engine noise with the sun roof open but once in a while its great to put it on.
Wanted to mention this as Ive recently re fitted a set of the sound deadening pieces and at standstill it made a big difference. It could all be psychological....
Finally, shout out to Curt for setting up the engines wanted and engines for sale posts. Great thinking. Lee

Pics from an A but similar material wise-just a different shape. You could easily make them from 1/2 inch jute.

The ones for my T-6 are made of the same material. I wonder if Autos International sells them?
