356 B Door Glass
Which is better? Factory installed glass on both sides (with sekurit stamped in the corner) with one side having a non removeble scratch or is it better to have two windows, each with no scratches, but with different labels?

Re: 356 B Door Glass
Hi Steve,
I think this is more a personal preference issue as opinions will vary. Some years ago, I leaned more towards trying to restore the car to "as new" condition. I now lean towards preserving a car in good original condition, which means I now accept flaws in original parts over replacement ones, especially if the replacement part shows signs of obviously being replaced.

Re: 356 B Door Glass
Steve: the scratch may be removable. I found a company, Etch Busters, that did my door glass and a friend's. The glass was out of the car during restoration and they came to the house to do the work. I believe they are based in Inglewood, CA, but are mobile. The results were great with no distortion.

FYI, many 356Bs came with "Durvit" side glass. I have found no pattern as to which 356B came with which brand of glass. I have never found a used side glass that wasn't scratched in some fashion, either.
Regards
Jim
PS I've got hundreds of side glasses for 356s and every one is scratched.

Re: 356 B Door Glass
My original question came from my recent experience at the Huntington Beach Concours (formerly the Dana Point Concours). One of the judges dinged me for having one window with a "Durvit" label and the other with a "Sekurit" label. The original Sekurit labeled window had a major scratch on it and I replaced it many years ago with the un- scratched Durvit window. Would I have been better off not replacing it for originality sake . At the time I was just happy to find an unscratched window.

Re: 356 B Door Glass
That's interesting, my vent windows are the same way and nothing in my documentation says the window was changed or a new one bought. I wonder if the factory had a contract for both. Which side is Durvit?Stephen Hoskins wrote:My original question came from my recent experience at the Huntington Beach Concours (formerly the Dana Point Concours). Re: 356 B Door Glass
For clarification on a 356 B
To clarify what Jim Breazeale stated the side windows and vent windows were originally "Durvit". Were the front and rear screens "Sekurit?"

Re: 356 B Door Glass
I believe all the glass was originally Sekurit.

Side window glasses are currently available with Sekurit logos -- for example see http://www.stoddard.com/64454210102.html clear and tinted.

Re: 356 B Door Glass
Strange. Reinforcing Jim's point perhaps, my (62 Australian delivered RHD) front quarter glass is Durvit and the windows as well. The rear glasses, seemingly in their original rubbers, are Sigla

Re: 356 B Door Glass
My 63 Coupe that I bought from the original owner has:
No markings on my windshield (replaced by me in c.1982)
Sekurit = rear window screen
Durvit = door glass window both sides and wind wing both sides
Sigla= Pop out windows both sides
I have an early 63 built on August 1, 1962 for reference.
