#1 Post by Hugo Karasawa »

Which one of these elastics bands is closer to the color of the original one ?
Which one would you recommend to use ?
The darker or the lighter gray ?

I'd go with the darker one. Just personal preference.

Mike,
Thanks for your answer.

How about originality ?
Does somebody know if it was dark or light gray ?

My C coupe had the lighter band that appeared very original.

Ned,
Thanks for your answer.
This car had a very small part left about 1/2 inch, it disintegrated when I touched it, it was very light in color. I thought this part lost its color, that is why I am asking.
I have seen some reproduction glove box door liners , but I think those are not correct some have white or black elastic bands. I know it must be gray.

Seems light grey, except where slightly aged with time. 62-3/BT6. The grey section on the right piece was hidden under the cover and showed when I re-tensioned that strap.

Mervyn,
Thanks for posting that photo, it helped a lot.
I will go with the light grey, the piece I will use is a little bit darker than in my photo.

I have been asked where did I source the grey elastic band.
I could not find grey elastic band, instead I dyed two white elastic bands with powder dye. You dilute that powder in warm water and then soak the elastic band. I think that I got two different shades of grey because the material of the bands I dyed is different, one has more cotton and the other has more synthetic material. You can buy this dye through Amazon or several other stores, just google fabric dye grey.

I just went to a fabric store and they had both the natural color and the grey.

John did you look at Stoddard or SMC ? I think I have seen those in their online catalogs.
I only needed the elastic band.

I did check with Stoddard, no luck, but understand that Ed at Klasse356 has the items.
Will contact Monday.

John,
SMC has these. I got one for my 58 cab, but I don't have a photo.
