61 Notchback Sound Insulation, Knob Size Hand Throttle

#1 Post by Christoph Wienecke »

Hi there,

I have a few questions regarding our 61 B T5 Notchback while I am putting it together.

1. Should there (pic. 4509) be any sound deadening in that outlined area? If yes, what kind of? Since this area is exposed to water and dirt a lot.

2. I was wondering how these sheet pikes (?) (pic. 4510) are supposed to be used. I haven't seen any insulation / cardboard being punctuated by these pikes. Are they supposed to fix the "horse hair" kind of material before the cardboard is being installed?

3. I got two of these hand throttles (pic. 4517) and I wasn't able to find information how to identify the right one for this 1961 B T5 Notchback. Could anyone help me on this one?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks from southern Germany.

Christoph

As far as the sound deadening, touch base with Bill Perrone at The Parts Shop, one of our vendors. I just spoke with him today and he has the correct sound deadening back in stock. The knob with the nut should be correct as it locks onto the shaft of the hand throttle which must be twisted to lock and unlock.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your answer.
Since both shafts of the hand throttles in the picture have this lock fixture I guess it depends on the size of the knobs to tell which one will be matching
the year and model?!

Hopefully someone with an original hand throttle will weigh in with the size of the knob.

Mike

Thanks again,
I am wondering if anybody could tell if the knobs of light switch and hand throttle were the same size?
It is hard to tell by the picture I found on the "Little Known Facts" webpage. It somehow looks as if they where the same size.

I just checked on the Samba. There is a hand throttle listed for sale with the knob. Search "Porsche 356 hand throttle".

Hello Mike,

Thanks for spending time on this. I just went on the PET list and I couldn't find any other knob that the small one in my pic.
"Parts-Wise" is also offering only one knob size for all hand throttle versions though in different color options.

Thanks

Glad to be of help. I'm sure some of our other vendors have the correct knob: Klasse 356, Stoddard, etc.

Hi Mike,

I do have everything that is shown in the pictures. I just didn't know which one is supposed to be in this car.
So I guess the big knob isn't supposed to be on the second throttle... 🤔

Off the top of my head, it should match the size of the headlight switch knob. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me.

I have what I am pretty sure are the original knobs in my '61 T-5 Notch -- and they the same size. I can't speak to the insulation, as insulation in mine had been replaced before I owned it.

Thanks again everyone. I figured it out. I switched the right knob to the right cable and now it all makes sense.
Thanks!!
