1965 356 C Oil Canister Color
Does anyone know what color the oil filter canister was on a 65? Not sure if it has anything to do with it but the car is Herron Grey

Re: 1965 356 C Oil Canister Color
Jeff: no correlation between the color of the car and the color of the oil filter canister. The canister is silver. If you Google the topic, "Porsche 356 oil filter canister color", there are previous threads regarding the color with suggestions from members. Some say the same color as the silver painted rims and other give their suggestions.

I bought one new in 1964. it was Irish Green with a silver oil canister. Other than earlier cars I've never seen anything other than silver.

I may be wrong, however I will throw it out there.
The body is silver, but some had a black lid, was this a super 90 spec, sure i read this somewhere.

The oil filter canister on our 1960 Super 90 had a silver body with black lid. However the label on the lid includes Fram F827. All the reproduction decals I'm able to find are F988. I'm not sure if that means someone replaced the lid at some point.EricMcKinley wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 11:19 pm The body is silver, but some had a black lid, was this a super 90 spec, sure i read this somewhere.

Stoddard has a spray can that is an excellent match.

Re: 1965 356 C Oil Canister Color
I've done some side-by-side comparisons of the Stoddard Filter Canister Silver that Vic's referring to and it is a very close match to the color of our oil filter canister. I've been testing spray can colors for this and also the black tin bits. I'll post the results of those eventually.
FWIW - On our car, the silver of the oil filter canister was different than the silver of the fan shroud. Seems odd to me, but I guess that's classic Porsche?

Porsche did not paint the canister; the vendor did that. I don't know who painted the fab shrouds.

Re: 1965 356 C Oil Canister Color
Would that be true of the oil filler too? Was it done by an outside vendor, and would have been a different color and sheen than the black engine tin?Vic Skirmants wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 7:36 am Porsche did not paint the canister; the vendor did that. I don't know who painted the fab shrouds.
