Hello Guys,
do you know if on cabriolet frames there was any tag with number as on the hardtops?
If yes could you tell me more or less on 1956 (early A period) which number we had?
Thanks for attention.

Re: Tag on cabriolet frame
Massimiliano,
I don't know about the T1 cabriolets, but the T2 cabs had a Reutter-Verdeck tag like the first photo. I think the later cabs had the Porsche-Verdeck version like the second photo. I tried all the usual sources and couldn't find one for my '58 T2 until John Wurner generously gave me a spare one from his collection. I could never find a list of verdeck ID numbers that corresponded to chassis numbers or dates, so if you're able to find one of the Reutter-Verdeck tags - and confirm your '56 originally had one - you're in good shape.

Thanks so much Mike.
The only thing to know is if on 1956 cabs this kind of tags were presents originally.
It seems that Verdeck tags started on T2 cabs.

Re: Tag on cabriolet frame
The 57 T-1 cab I am currently doing does not have this tag, nor any tag for that matter. They were built on the car as it traveled down the production line so there is no need to track the top to the car. With the T-2 design the top could now be built independent of the body so tracking was needed to ensure it ended up with the correct car.

Re: Tag on cabriolet frame
Hi Guys,
I just ran across the I.D. tag for the hardtop that was with my '58 "A" cab, (150121) when I bought it in the early 80's.
The number is : 3072. Reutter-Verdeck
I have a COA, but the hardtop is not listed.

Re: Tag on cabriolet frame
"56 Cab tops are built onto the car and are not considered "removable" as are the later tops. The pin driven into the threads holding the top on make removal very difficult. The car was painted with the top installed, thus the body color frame. I've restored a "European" early '56 and there was no tag.
