Here are some pictures of my early '62 Super engine. Do you see anything which is incorrect? No points for missing air cleaners or stickers on the oil canister and fan housing.

Started the engine for the first time today. Exciting news for a guy who hasn't driven his or any 356 this century ...

Looks like a VERY nice job to me. On Cs, the generator is rotated anti-clockwise 90* (to keep the posts from fouling the larger filler can); dunno if the same was true earlier.

The generator is correct for the small oil filler.

Edwin,

2-O-rings on each pair of the ignition wires are missing, I don't use the shown rubber fuel line and clamps; I use the OEM 7mm braided hose w/plain hose end caps (from Stoddard) w/o crimping--I don't have or need the tool anyway.

Vic answered my question, but the next time I have an engine on the stand, I'd make sure the ball end is the proper distance from the fan shroud:

It's in the shop manual (and Ab beats on it regularly and properly: 50mm?). I've ignored it in the past and then spent hours getting the throttle linkage in shape.

Completely stock build. Highlights: not the original case (lost to history), but a standard one a few hundred numbers off. NOS heads, crank, and P&C. Don Marks rebuilt distributor, Bruce Smith rebuilt carburetors (correct type and date matched), and Larry Markham rebuilt generator (date matched). NOS spark plug connectors, wires, and boots. Have restored Zenith air filter cans, but looking for a closer date.

Sure, these details are ridiculous, but it's nice to put things back to the way they should be and were.

Edwin, some minor nits only. But you asked ;<)

Missing boots for the generator terminals and the oil pressure switch.

The distributor-coil wire should be black for a br-18 (with a circular lug not a spade lug)

The generator-regulator wire sheath looks like it overheated a lot at some point, so it might be worth removing the sheath and inspecting the insulation. You can always replace the sheath with heat shrink tubing.

The carburetor washers (for the four nuts that attach the carb to the manifold) should be black, i.e. parkerized, not bright plated.

The right carburetor top screw that also holds the spring bracket in place should have a lock washer just like the other top screws.

The carburetor linkage rods don't look like a matched set, the one on the right has a lot more threads showing so it must be shorter.

I may be wrong, but I think the exhaust nuts should not be bright plated. I think they originally were parkerized. I checked the parts manual though and it does not say one way or the other.

Its missing the dip stick and the middle cover plate (which is always missing).
