Fuel tank dated 8/57

#1 Post by Robert Thiemrodt »

Fuel tank is stamped 8/57 , completion date is January 8, 1958. Prior owner says it is original to car, does that sound correct? I am considering looking for a set of rims, mine are incorrect. What dates do I want? It seems 3 months prior to completion is a rule of thumb. Can I go back as far as 8/57 to match the tank?

Seems like a bit far date wise. The 2 57's I did were both stamped the same month of completion. One was 12/56 completed in late Dec. '56 and the other 3/57 completed mid march '57

I would say the tank is likely correct.
As far as the wheels I'd look for 2-3 monthe prior the the build date,

Norm

Thanks for the input guys. Didn't the factory always shut down in Sept. for retooling? If that's the case my 8/57 stamped tank could have went into circulation from October onward. With a completion date of Jan. 8,1958 that would be a 3 month window?? Thanks for any input.
