Anatole Lapine 1958 Speedster

#1 Post by bliss »

Speedster #83865 was sold to Porsche designer Anatole Lapine 1.4.58
Records state the exterior Color was 701 Black
Would anyone know the correct interior, carpet and top?
I believe it was red, black carpet and black top.
Interested to hear any facts or theories

Sorry for not providing more detail.
Profile should be fixed too!

I live in Sydney Australia and have owned this car for 4 years now.
I did restore it but painted it grey and now I want to return it to what it was.

I know the exterior was black but want to find out the interior, carpet and top colors

I am surprised that is not on the kardex/coa. Maybe an email to the Porsche historian(?) would get you more information. They were able to tell me some interesting details about a factory test car that I owned.

Back in 2007 the contact was Marc Noack, marc.noack@porsche.de

Thanks for that
Kardex states both exterior and interior "not recorded"
Will try your contact

Black was obviously a designer fetish with Tony

His Carrera Coupe was Black/Black so there is a good chance that his Speedster was ordered the same way, or he could and I am sure would have changed it to what suited him.

John Hearn and I sank a couple of beers with him in 87 - nice guy

This car was indeed painted back. In fact, 83860-83865 were all painted black and were fitted with the 616/1 engine save for 83863 which was 616/2 for the power plant.

Out of the entire production run of Speedsters, 141 were painted black.

Don't have the information for paint/interior color for black cars, just for Red/Beige, Red/Black, White/Black, White/Red, Blue/Red, Blue/Beige

If it's of any help, my '58 Speedster originally was black with red interior and oatmeal carpet. Carpet had light tan vinyl binding, sort of matching the carpet color. Seat piping also red. As far as color combinations, it doesn't get much better IMHO.
