B T6 Cabriolet rear view mirror
Hi!
First post ever, but for sure not the last...
My car has a rear view mirror mounted on a rod as shown in the enclosed image from the manual. However, today I got my CoA from Porsche Germany and they list as Individual Equipment:
"Screening off rear-view mirror" (this is exactly how it was written in English)
Is this the same thing as a "Day/Night mirror"?
And if so, which mirror is correct for my car, a 1963 BT6 delivered in September 1962. Is this the right one: http://www.sierramadrecollection.com/Re ... 15886.html or does it exist a version that mounts on the rod?
Thank you in advance!
/Thomas

Thomas:
Checking der White's site which translates the Kardex terminology, there is a "abblendbarer innenspiegel" which he translates to an "anti-glare mirror". Is that the terminology on your COA? Checking both the B and B supplement parts manuals, there is no part number for an anti-glare mirror for an open car, just the coupes. Of course, Porsche was consistently inconsistent so it is possible one was somehow fitted to your cab. It would have to have a different mounting stem to be clamped rather than threaded to a stem.

I should have looked at the previous threads and pics before I posted. A day/night mirror could have been installed but on the windshield frame rather than the vertical rod. Does your car have the screw holes on the frame?

It will definitely have the screw holes on the frame because that is where the hook for the middle top latch mounts. I happen to have the accessory day night B cab mirror in my collection....

Does it look like this?

Doug,
That's a "C" mirror base (which can also be used on a B) , the B accessory mirror I have is the same concept...

So the top latch and stem are one piece? Interesting. Thanks for the pics, Guys.

Re: B T6 Cabriolet rear view mirror
Correct-- in fact, that is a T5 B that it's mounted on; the mounting holes for the bracket are lower on the windshield's frame than the B's bracket, but it fits perfectly and also covers the holes for the B bracket.Sebastian Gaeta wrote:Doug,

Re: B T6 Cabriolet rear view mirror
I believe that the "Screening off rear-view mirror" refers to the optional mirror for Cabriolets as shown in the accessories booklets, see below photo.
That would be option code 9171 and part number 644-731-103-50 described as "Anti-glare mirror, inside, for Cabriolet/Hardtop". Price in 1962 was $5.65.
Same mirror was used on Mercedes, notably 300SL. Check prices of originals on Ebay!

Fantastic, thanks for all the input. The hunt for a 644-731-103-50 can start...
Seems like someone covered the wholes when car was fixed and repainted app. 10 years ago.

Sebastian, just to clarify: do you have the "one piece" version that replace the hook for the cab, or the one shown in the accessory catalog that fits below the hook?Sebastian Gaeta wrote:Doug,

The CoA is in English so "Screening off rear view mirror" is the exact wording...Mike Wilson wrote:Thomas:

Finally found a good picture of it. Finding an actual one for sale will be the hard part.

I think I have actually seen that mirror stem somewhere. From the pics, it looks like the latch and mirror stem are two separate pieces.
