Car history
My 356B Serial 118274 Engine P603943 has a S90 rear emblem and the flat plate stabilizer in the rear suspension. The engine is not original, I believe it is a 1960 1600 normal engine with Zenith carburators. A couple of questions:
1. How can I find the owner history?
2. Is it possible to find the original engine?
3. How do I get authentication for this car?
Thanx Pat Dorn

Patrick:
1. Obtain a copy of the Kardex. There are people on the Talk List that can facilitate this for you. The Kardex will list the original owner's name. Perhaps others on the Talk List will recognize the chassis number or, post a pic of your car.
2. Check the threads in this section on engines located and looking for.
3. You can obtain a Certificate of Authenticity from the PCA. Call them with your chassis number abd have your credit card ready.
Good luck!

Re: Car history
How does one get a copy of the Kardex ?
I have my COA .. it did not say much.. no options known etc, very limited ..
I would very much like to know the original owner.. I am the third owner.. so it would be interesting for sure..

Re: Car history
The COA is derived from the Kardex, which is the source document, so it's likely there is not as much information detail on it as you would like. Never-the-less there are numerous reports of inaccuracies on COA's, once the Kardex has been compared, so that is what you want to start with.

Re: Car history
Notwithstanding the fact that the COA sometimes has mistakes, the kardex is not the sum total of information Porsche has on a car. There are other sources/records. I have two examples on the cars I own where the kardex is essentially blank but the COAs which came back have the engine/trans and color/interior information so it is obvious that Porsche is sometimes using some of their other records besides the Kardex to fill in information on a car. Bottom line is that the COA is better than in year's past and it is a mistake to dismiss it as only containing Kardex info.
To the original poster, you can obtain a COA here:
https://www.pca.org/sites/default/files ... -02-18.pdf
It should contain all the info a Kardex has, and sometimes more, with the exception of original owner or key numbers, which Porsche doesn't give out. If you have to have a Kardex, there are bootleg sources.

Re: Car history
As I understand it, the Kardex is for any warranty work needed. That might explain blank Kardexes. However, has anyone seen or have a copy of the build sheet for a 356?

Re: Car history
Thanks Dennis. However, the original interior combination did not survive it's restoration done in the early 90's (not by me - but a very good restoration that has received favorable comments by others many times) did not survive. It is now blue with grey corduroy. If I were to re-do it sometime I'm sure I would go back to original.

Re: Car history
May Kardex has the full build history and early service history. Well worth the small investment.
