One more, unrelated, but just for fun. Note that at the time cars were registered by engine number.

James wrote >1) Burlap-looking material on the radio delete plate. I've seen this on one other mid-1953 car. Is this really burlap, or perhaps a leatherette with basket weave? Very funky, but original. Reutter did use lots of burlap in constructing the front seats.<
The exposed ends are slightly frayed and using a loop it appears to be real burlap. Funky indeed .... but it as survived better than any of the other organic materials

David - great thread. I love the wire harness pictures. The more the merrier! A close up of the fuse box would be great - hint, hint

Very nice! I like the upturned waterfall knobs on the ash tray and glove box too.

You have a great pre-A example David. Thanks for sharing your photos!Alan Hall wrote:David,
That maroonish dash color was probably the most common dash color used in '53, and I don't think it matched any exterior color. I also believe it was a fairly flat paint and not a gloss finish. My father's '53 fashion grey cab had that dash color as did my brothers '53 black coupe. Alan
Echoing Alan & James' comments, here are a couple of photos of the maroon on my '53 cabriolet dash and ornamental door tops (Aug 17, '53; C501A-black with tan top over reddish-brown leather). Presumably this is the 503 maroon used from '50-'52.

I love this thread!
Here are a few more examples of Corduroy in combination with leather from my non restored March '53 Super.
Ivory car, maroon dash and garnish rails and beige upholstery. Parts that have never been exposed to sunlight revealed that the beige Corduroy was very light in color indeed.
Note the last 3 digits of the car written with crayon. The dash has the last two digits stamped it.
