Does anybody know what this is??
This is a 1956 356A Speedster, VIN 82048. The unknown part is welded behind the seats on the interior, attached to the fender well( see photos). It has a rectangular base and a round post with internal threads. This car was used for racing. There were four holes on either side were I assumed a roll bar may have been attached. It might be related to the roll bar, but I am just guessing. I am trying to restore the car to original condition and was wondering if I should remove them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Paul V.

Paul:
Our '56 Speedster, no 82402, does not have those parts. I can get you a picture later if you wish.

SAE threads? Might be belt anchor points.

Agree they are probably harness mounts. But they don't look like mods. Spot welds are tip off to that. Not sure if the factory even installed such things. I would leave them as part of the cool history of the car.

Re: Does anybody know what this is??
Model year '56 356s had a stop bolt for the rear seat back when folded down. This is the bracket for that bolt M8. Bolt head had a rubber cover as in the Speedster seat adjusters and seat back had an aluminum plate over the vinyl where the bolt hit. I'm guessing your car came with a rear seat back.

The receiver for the seat back is horizontal.
This is vertical.
A T1 thing for a down stop?

Norm, I was referencing # 20 in Brad's post. I have never seen a upright post in the back seat area of one of these cars, nothing like that in my T-1 coupe, but with these cars, never say never as we are seeing one for whatever reason now.

Could it have had a cover for a rear seat delete, maybe plywood covering where the seat cushions were?

Re: Does anybody know what this is??
Ok... My T1 rear back seat has a aluminum angle stop that rests ona bolt head which is screwed into that weld on fitting as shown above. Not sure if that bolt is to be there or not but pretty much looks original. That angle stop that mounts onto the seat itself is type on both sides. I would post picks, but seems that I not allowed to post pics....If you send me your email, I will send you pics.
