Speedster seats come with colored beading?

#1 Post by Steve Raucher »

Wonder if original Speedster bucket seats came with the rounded seams colored? What is that part called? Welting?
Going to buy new correct vinyl covers and debating on leaving them all black or getting Ruby red beading sewn in as one day car will be repainted Ruby red.
Any comments are appreciated. BTW, the only colors I've seen are white and red. Guess any color could be sewn it.

This is exactly how mine left the factory. Yes, including the red dash. 1957 83405 Fire red, Signal red, Guards red...whatever, the brighter red, not Ruby which I actually like better. Defroster vents should be painted red.

Here's a picture from the September 1957 "racy elegance" brochure (M&M 131):

Porsche thought they came with contrasting beading.

I'm going to be buying some Speedster seats and redoing the whole interior. I think the contrasting beading breaks the expanse of tan up nicely. Cliff's red dash pad with tan interior is very unusual but works nicely.

Red dashboard tops weren't all that unusual. Neil's Book, The 356A Porsche. Documented Details by Neil Goldberg shows a Ruby Red coupé with beige interior and a red dashboard top.

I know it is personnel choice and taste but I would like to know if any members with Ruby red 356's,preferably open cars and Speedsters have their seat piping in red. Is it the traditional signal or bright red or anyone use darker red for their Ruby cars.
Opinions appreciated.

Steve, just guessing but I think they may have used a darker red. There must be somebody with an original ruby speedster that knows.

I have always wondered about this, since i see cars both ways. I have a 56 Speedster that is Aquamarine Blue Metallic with a red interior. Did my seats originally have Blue piping on the red seats when it left the factory?

Black dash and red piping with black seats seems correct but the carpet looks wrong.

I don't think that would look good so I can't imagine them using any color other than red on the piping. Just guessing.

Going to buy new correct vinyl covers and debating on leaving them all black or getting Ruby red beading sewn in as one day car will be repainted Ruby red.
Any comments are appreciated. BTW, the only colors I've seen are white and red. Guess any color could be sewn it.

I agree with you CJ, that color combo would be a little odd?
