Advice/consensus on finish to the bonnet handle on '55

#1 Post by Vincent Gillespie »

Hello, I have searched on the forum and found a couple of references regarding this where polishing was the chosen route. I have 2 handles that came with this car both in pretty good condition. One on the bonnet, amazingly, still with the badge attached and another, badgeless, that came in a box of miscellaneous bits. I'm currently sorting out the plating and the platers tell me that it is anodized aluminium, which they do not do, but can plate them with a finish that will be very close to the original bright anodizing. I also have taken them to a very reputable platers that specialize in anodizing who say they will not be able to get anywhere near the finish. So is there a consensus which way to jump, chrome as near as possible, polish the ally to an inch of it's life, buy new, any other?
I suppose I could leave as is to show the bumps & scrapes of it's life!

I believe the handles were originally bright dipped. Very hard to get redone

This company has a very good reputation, although I have not used them personally ...

Is bright dipped the same as anodizing, or a different process?

The old blunt nose handles clean up very nice with professional buffing and some Simichrome polish! This one off '55 #53449.
