356 fuel tank level sensor cover

thesamba 356 Porsche parts\ site (see link above to the ad) has a plated cover for sale that fits over the gas tank level sender unit. I've never seen one of these as a 50 year 356 owner and Proschefile and wonder if anyone knows if these were factory issued or an after market accessory. Please respond.

My 65 has one. I have had 1 63 and 2 65s and they all had them. My parts manual supplement for B T6 shows cover for indicator # 644.201.127.00 For top sender 63-65 cars.

Thanks for the input. I've had several 'A' cars and now have a '60 T5 B and had never seen the cover on these which I now know is correct, no cover on these cars.

Per Doug's photo; identical to my`65 cab's original coverless fuel tank with its fuel level sensor cover typical of T6 tanks, including the earlier tanks with a protective tarred mat cover.

Since the T-6 tank used a plastic cover over the tank, the cover was needed to protect the wire connections. The A and T-5 tanks did not need a cover.

My early 63 T6B with the top sender had that cover and the tar material cover over the tank.

I am pretty sure that is also a VW part from the mid-sixties although I never tried swapping them.
