53 Pre A fuse block - Just hangs there?
Spent quite a bit of time looking at what pictures exist of the early (53) fuse block. It looks like it just hangs freely over in the corner! Some pictures were pretty original cars and I didn't see any weld tabs in the area.
Can anybody confirm this?
thanks

It screws into the passenger side kick panel.
You can see the two holes in the image below.

Many thanks. Into the documentation folder that picture goes.

Let me know if you need any further documentation on '53 coupes Ed. I have it coming out of my ears and am glad to share.

Re: 53 Pre A fuse block - Just hangs there?
I am wondering if anyone can post measurements as to the location of those holes, thread size/length appearance of the two screws, (photos?),
My '53 coupe came with a 1954-style relocation of the fuse block under the dash, and the holes were welded up and ground off, (Can't quite pinpoint the
location), and I would like to mount it up properly as I continue my restoration. Perhaps a measurement could be pulled off the seam closest to the
left side hole, and the other off the floor pan edge? Also center-to center distance.
Thanks, Jeff

Re: 53 Pre A fuse block - Just hangs there?
Hi Jeff, as you can see, the left hole is right on the seam overlap. Both hooles line up vertically with the hole for the vent pull rod. And the hole separation is whatever the separation of your fuse block is. I can measure that for you if you need. I don't know the screws that are used, and I would be quite interested too if someone has that info. I have a big Folgers coffee can full of screws from my car, many of which I still haven't figured out where they go.

Re: 53 Pre A fuse block - Just hangs there?
Thanks James; I had not noticed that seam when I looked at the photo,
only the more obvious one a bit further to the left. If it is not too much trouble,
could you measure the center-to-center? I figure I will use your measurement as
an initial guideline, and then verify the marks by holding the fuse block over them.
Also; can you obtain hole diameter measurement, and, are the holes threaded, or clean?
Sorry for being a PITA, but I know you get it from reading all of your '53 posts and replies,
which have been a great source of information for me, as I trudge along. (My bodywork
is complete, the undercoating has been applied. Now ready to continue on, after 7-8 years
of little progress)...Jeff

Mounting hole separation in the fuse block is 90mm c-t-c. Hole size is Ø 5mm in the fuse block.

And from photos, it looks like a pair of large, slotted, cheese-head machine screws hold it on.

Re: 53 Pre A fuse block - Just hangs there?
Thanks for the information, James, it appears Cad plated. Do you think the screws thread into
the sheet metal, or had a nut/washer on the other side? My body is not here at the moment,
and I do forget whether or not the backside is accessible. Thanks, jt

The screws have a washer and bolt on the back apparently, as the holes are just 5-6mm holes. No captured nut welded on the backside.

Awesome, thanks so much; been wondering for years, even before I asked the first question the other day!
