Center Dash Gauge Panel

#1 Post by Ron Thomas »

Hello All,

I came across this on Aase Sales website but I have never seen one before. Possibly a factory add on back in the day?

Anyone know where I could find one of these? If not, who could make one?

There is a similar after market piece with a full 'centre console' that a colleague has locally.

I called aasesales.com about a year ago to purchase this exact item and was told that it had sold some time ago and they had failed to remove it from their site. Does anyone know who purchased it? I would like to buy it if they are not using it. Anyone have any idea who made it?

Conrad

Take the photo to a sheet metal shop or since you are out on the outer banks, a boat yard. That is not too hard to make. The LOGO is off a key fob and the gauges are available. The metal is pretty easy to cut bend up. probably a couple hundred bucks out the door, VDO gauges will the big expense.

They can make a pattern off your radio and dash. Then it yours, not an aftermarket. Make two or three because when some one sees it, they will want one too.

I will try to get a photo Conrad. Looks very 70's and has a gauge panel, radio slot and 'bin' underneath. Quite professionally done.

Merv,
Eager to see what you have. Photos can be sent to my email...conrad0320@gmail.com.

John,
I have gauges already. Not sure how easy the plate will be to make due to compound shapes (dished shape) but willing to take a look. It would be cool to make this available to others. The chrome trim along outside edge...any idea where that came from? FWIW, I'm in the central section of NC, not on the coast. Would be nice to find out who has the die for the plate/cutouts. My son has a CNC Router so it is possible.

That shape is not that hard, it takes a couple of special tools, a shrinker/stretcher and a bead roller. Watch this YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mOi4VAxg84

A good sheet metal or Hot Rod shop can make one. Probably on the mainland. You need to make a shirt board template of the dash and cut out the shape. It looks much harder than it is. You can always call Lazzie, he can do it for you. http://www.lazzemetalshaping.com/

Conrad - I have spoken to the current owner of the South African 58 A that had a "Porsche-badged', aftermarket vinyl covered vertical, metal centre console for with radio, gauges and oddments bin. He tells me he hated it as it was so ugly and threw in in the trash! I still think I have a photo somewhere however ...
