I am trying to identify the various versions of ULO No.135 reflectors, and approximately when they were used. Here's what I have, and what I think they are, from oldest to newest: #1: earliest, has "sunburst" ULO logo in middle #2: similar to #1, but has an added IGM certification (Italian automobile authority) #3: similar to #2, but has plain "-ULO-" in middle #4.0 (not shown): same as next one but retains BI315 marking on lower right
#4.1: newer (post 356 era?), loses the old K11426 and IGM approvals, uses ECE code ("E1") approval #5: NLA/Stoddard repro(?), similar to #4, but has plain metal back.

#1-#4 have metal backs stamped ULO and No135.

What does all the nomenclature mean?

ULO No 135: manufacturer and model number
K11246: University of Karlsruhe lighting approval/standard
IGM 0766 C2: "Ispettorato Generale Motorizzazione" (Italian motor vehicle approval)
A-5108: ???
B circle I 315 logo: ???
I(E1)21274R3:
_____I: ???
_____E1: (e-code for Germany
_____21274: approval under ECE guidelines?
_____R3: ECE reference for a reflective device
JRU493: Danish Ministry of Justice approval ???
514-R: ???

You may want to chat with John Chatley (Conv D registgry). He has an obsession with ULO reflectors, as well. You guys can compare notes.

Gee, my one inch file on reflectors has sketches of five versions of the plastic reflectors. Two of them are different than Eric's.

General comment on all lighting codes: the more the codes, the later the part. Applies especially to those elusive seal beam headlight glasses.

Hello Brad,

Is this like the headlight glass you mention? I've had these for years in a box, can't remember where I got them and have always wondered if these were repro or what. It just says Hella,...nothing else. They're kinda scratchy so I figured they were at least somewhat old.

Sorry Eric for the slight hijack.

I have been looking through my spares and I find a pair the same as that pictured at # 2 above. Are these correct for a BT6 (62-3)? The ones on there are newer and the same as image #4. They may also be correct?

My observations are that only sunburst ULO reflectors came on 356s and the large letter ones are later production, although I am not 100% certain on later Cs. The plastic sunburst reflectors showed up sometime in '59.

That seems to be the case Chuck. I have three different sets, one of which is sunburst style. I am wondering which is correct for 63/BT6?

Curt, my (still ignorant) view would be that the first one shown in Eric's list is the only glass version. When that stopped and the next (Sunburst) plastic version (and so on) started to be fitted - I am unaware. When the others were developed and when were fitted is unknown to me.

I suspect that given that different markets RHD B's and possibly C's appeared to have the reflectors below the bumper (some here for example) may also suggest that different versions of the reflectors were used as well.
