Maybe it's my monitor, but your image looks brown. Also, the threads do not cross like shown on yours.
Mine is not a course weave, it is a very fine weave with the silver thread similar to the anti counterfeiting thread on the modern U.S. dollar bill. You have to really get up close to see the silver thread.

Roy, Here's yet another shot. Keep in mind the back ground colors are coming through the cloth is gray with the sliver thread.

Here is a photo of the speaker grills from my 1964 C, manufactured in the fall of 1963. I'm quite sure they are original as I bought the car from the original owner in 1965. They may have been installed by the dealer however. One unusual thing is the radio antenna was installed on the passenger side. The cloth does have a silver thread in the weaving and it doesn't appear as if it were glued to the screen, which looks like it was plated to prevent rusting.

Hi Cliff,

The cloth in your image looks exactly like the cloth that was in the NOS speaker kit that I saw about a month ago.

Edit: I have deleted my own comment about the possibilty of there being different types of cloth used in these speakers. It was merely a comment with no facts to back it up, but I will now say that the only cloth I have seen before that is known to be original is the type in Cliffs pitcure.

Regards,

My '64C has the Becker it originally came with (still have all the radio's paperwork, booklet and folder). The car has round speakers, as Jim has posted about Becker-equipped cars.

My 63 S90 Coupe has exactly the same material as shown on Cliff's pictures. That is what I was trying to discribe in my previous posts to this thread.

I don't know anything about later cars, but I can say that this is what I have seen in many original cars.

I normally don't post "ditto" type comments, but in this case I thought it might be of some small value. I echo the comments about Cliff's photo of the speaker cloth. Looks correct to me.

All I can tell you is the grill cloth that I have pictured( is original) came out of a 64C coupe parts car factory installed Blaupunkt with speakers that were roundish with square corners. The grill cloth of the other version I have seen as well.

The speaker shape is dictated by the depression in the body panel. Oval for thru T-5 and round for T-/C.

Hi Sebastian,

What was included in the kit and who sells it?

More useless trivia.......................

All B and C chassis have an oval speaker hole like T5s and earlier cars.
T6Bs and Cs just have an extra piece of sheetmetal welded over the oval hole to form a round hole.

Included in the original box were two each of brand new, never installed, NOS speaker mounting rings, chrome "sorta round" speaker trim rings, wire mesh grills, speakers, and pieces of cloth as seen in your photo.

This was not a kit for sale, but was on a shelf full of original parts in Chuck Stoddard's shop. I'll be there again in a few weeks and will get some good photos of the entire "kit".

The cloth that shows in Cliff's first post is what the original cloth looks like. It is extremely hard to find. I believe it to be correct for all 64 and 65 c and sc coupe and cab

My two cents worth
