hexagonal window sprayers

#1 Post by Eric Cherneff »

Brett's book is somewhat vague on this, and I don't see vendors offering a repro, but when were the hexagonal "turret" type windshield sprayers used?

Hi Eric,

Not a lot of help, but a small piece of the puzzle.... my T2 Cabriolet chassis 150832 and and a club members original 1959 carrera cabriolet has the hexagonal squirters.

I just had Victor Miles restore mine!

Does anyone have a picture? My T5 had a pair of unusual squirters (flatter than the turret squirters) which I replaced thinking they were incorrect. I am wondering if I was incorrect in replacing them.

This is the type I am referring to:

They came off my T5 B, 114030, but I don't think they were original to the car. Looking at the "Factory Tour" photo book, they all appear to have the type with the offset squirter protruding from the side of the "hydrant". My car was built a few months after those pictures were taken.

The ones I took off my T5 were flatter on top than these but somewhat similar. I switched to the "fire hydrant" style, but kept the others in a box.

Hi Eric,

I have just noticed, that your hexagonal squirters ( the chromed hex area) are not as tall as mine! Mine are about a third taller

So there must be two types. I will try to post a picture of mine.

It is my understanding that the lower sprayers were used on the early cars and the taller ones through out the A production.

These are from a 1959 T2 108863. Completion date 9/2/59. I believe they are the taller version. On their way to the Great State of CA to be re-chromed.

My 59 A Coupe 107399, completed April 59 also has the higher "Dalek Shaped" nozzles. :D AKA: the higher version as per Alan's post.
