Saw these at Hershey in 2010 - vendor said they were supplemental electrical heater coils and were an option. Charlie White can probably provide verification and when they were offered.

It's not any regularly offered factory accessory that I know about, and it's not covered in the parts books. It occurred to me to wonder if these are "electric" coils or tubing for heated liquids. Perhaps it's an aftermarket accessory for "artic" delivered 356's? Engine heaters?

Yes I would think these are a "block heater" of sorts for winter operation. I also would think they are 110 powered and not 6 volt.

They are definitely electric, not liquid coils. Some reasonable sounding thoughts. Certainly could be engine heaters - remember being in MN in the winter a few years back and seeing a lot of cars plugged in (I believe dip stick heaters or engine blankets). Probably 110v coils would keep a Porsche or VW ready to go.

I believe in another picture for this project there is a Montana tag. That would explain the harsh weather conditions. I agree,...those suckers would draw some current. Most likely house current plugged in.

They look like the heating elements for your kitchen stove! Look at the large end that plugs the burner into the stovetop. Growing up on the east coast, I can tell you that we had plenty of time in the winter to come up with and execute some interesting ideas. Just my .02.
