Manual cover - 60 Roadster S90

#1 Post by Michael Scott »

I bought a red manual cover for the manual and paperwork which would have been included in a Drauz 1960 Roadster S90. I have some paperwork that went in the cover (operation instructions for the roadster top, maintenance instructions for Porsche bodies, and the S90 annex to driver's manual) which all fit nicely in the plastic cover. However the actual driver's manual is too wide to fit in the manual cover. Were the manuals not inside the pockets of the cover? Or do I have the wrong manual (it's dated April 1960 edition)? Or do I have the wrong cover? Also, does anybody know what other paperwork would have been included with the original car? Appreciate any advice on this issue.

Thanks to all.

I have an original cover for my original T5 1960 manual and noticed the same thing. I have a later cover that I got from NLA or Stoddard with the Porsche crest on the front and the manual fits properly inside. I always wondered whether the manual was supposed to fit in the pocket.

I would also be curious what else is supposed to be inside the cover and whether anyone has the additional items available for sale.

Hi,

I have an original manual (german version) for a B T5 from febr. 1960 with the red vinyl cover and the manual fits perfect to the cover.

Best regards
Rainer

Michael,

My red vinyl cover is the same as Rainer's, and my Sept 1959 manual fits inside nicely as well. Post some photos, with dimensions, of what you have.

Since I have both maroon pouches I have measured each:
The maroon cover with the Porsche name on the top right of the cover measures:
9” tall X 12 1/2” wide. The flaps on the inside are 3 3/4” wide on both sides.

The maroon cover with the Porsche seal embossed on the bottom right of the cover measures:
9” tall X 13 5/8” wide. The Flaps on the inside are 3 3/4“ wide on both sides.

My owner’s manual for my T-6 fits as a jacket cover for the manual.

The pouch with the embossed seal on the right front I use to store misc documents such as the dealers service directory, Porsche little spec book, old registration cards, Insurance card etc.
Question for the experts:
Which cover is the correct cover for my T-6?
Where the covers actually just jackets for the Owner’s manual?

The above website shows a variety of owner's manual supplements that you might find in an owner's manual cover, depending on which model you have, where you bought it, what the dealer or the factory put in it, and probably lots of other reasons. Things like radio booklets, battery cards, S90 booklets, Carrera motor booklets, operating instructions for removable hard tops and open car tops, body maintenance instructions, sunroof instructions, service coupon books, service location booklets, to name a vew. NO TELLING what any one buyer would find in their owner's manual cover. There are probably as many variations as there were buyers. I've acquired many so-called "original" owner's manual packets, complete with owner's manual and a bunch of other stuff, and they were all different. I don't think there is any Standard packet. One way to go is to collect the proper owner's manual with cover, and then whatever else you can find that will match your model, motor, accessories, and the like. Gook luck hunting!
