Gauge identification

#1 Post by John Wurner »

I have a Stork oil gauge in Celsius and Farenheit (two scales) and a Beck fuel gauge.
When is the last time they were used in a 356?
Thanks, John

Hi John,

See http://porsche356registry.org/resources ... o-hot.html
Starting in 1950 (Ludvigsen, Excellence Was Expected) or 1951 (Johnson, Authenticity Guide) an oil temperature gauge was standard equipment. Up until mid-1957, the various gauge types over the years — first MotoMeter, then Stork, and finally VDO...
I was not able to determine exactly when Porsche stopped using the MotoMeter and Stork gauges.

Bottom pivot Stork gauges were used in '52 and early '53 ( also perhaps earlier), center pivot Stork guages were used from early '53 through '55, with '53 and early '54 having a dipstick end on the capillary tube and late '54 and '55 having a screw in bulb end. The Beck fuel gauge was used in '54, and replaced by a small VDO gauge in '55. Speedster useage might be slightly different.
