1953 Cabrio Details

#1 Post by Frank Schanko »

I´m confused about the pictures, i try to ask in english.

1.Why are "Sidebags" at the Door Interieur on the 1953 owners manual, but not at the car?

2. Where is the Waterpump for the Wipers in the Manual and at the car photos?

3. Who knows the correct switches are the numbers on the last picture?

4. Is the big Light switch dimming the Instruments as well?

5. Has the 1953 a switch for the highbeam?

6.Thanks for looking

Frank,
1. Door pockets were eliminated on '53 cars (presumably to save cost) they were included in '52 and '54.

2. The windshield washer pump is under the dash, strapped to the large tube.

3. Not sure, and I think cab switches are different than coupes

4. I believe headlight switch turns to dim instrument lights

5. Highbeam switch is floor mounted, switch 4 in photo.

The car in the picture above is an early 53 in my opinion( look at the single range stork temperature gauge, and the early split shift knob). No diming dash lights option either on my 52 or 53 just on/off controlled by switch #3 in your picture.
#2 should be an accsesory switch (fogs?) #1 windshiel wiper was changed to a pull type switch later in 53.

Omar,

I believe you are correct. The pictures above are copyrighted pictures taken from my website:

The pictures were probably taken in March 1953, based on the transfer slip that came with the pictures from Department of Technical Data and Information, Chrysler Corporation, which originally took the pictures as a technical study. You can see more pictures from this collection together with the dated transfer slip on the website.
