Rear Reflector Set up for Euro Cars

#1 Post by Jay Aldeguer »

I understand the Euro 356s had reflectors underneath the rear bumper. Did they need the console bracket for installation as I know the ones installed above the teardrop lights (US version) utilized these brackets? Also, I've read somewhere that the reflectors were different for those used on top against the ones installed in the bottom (with different part numbers). Is this correct?

Thanks for your help. Pictures would be appreciated.

Jay

Hi Jay, The Reflector unit for 'U.S.A.' cars, also Belgium, are above the Bumper and are Part number 644.731.501.10. These have the Chrome console. The Part number for the 'Euro' Reflectors is 644.731.501.00. For cars except those for the U.S.A. Belgium and Sweden. These are fitted below the Bumper, and I believe are plastic. The mounts for these are similar in style to the mounts on 'A' model Reflectors. Except the 'A' model mounts are Aluminium.
Sorry I don't have a photo, just the parts. Hope this helps, Jim.

Thanks for clarifying Jim. So the mounts in the photo above are NOT the ones used for the reflectors below the bumpers right?

Appreciate the help.

Here's the euro set up on a T2
Aluminum wedged bases on both sides of the body.
Rubber washers between reflector and wedge, and wedge and body.

Note for T2 and earlier cars, the reflectors were made by SWF from glass. I believe T5 and later had the plastic ULO lenses.
Hope this helps

Hi Edwin,

Thanks. This definitely helps. So the wedges are the same for a "C" right? It's just the later cars used plastic reflectors?

Hi Jay, yes wedges are the same but they may have been made of plastic during the C vintage. The aluminum wedges are not supposed to be shiny like mine. (I will let them get dull over time)

Hi Jay, If I remember correctly, the entire part is plastic, rear of the reflector and all. I'll try to locate my NOS set and send you a photo if possible. But I will need your email address. You can send me a PM if you like. Hope this helps. Jim.

Hi Jay, Sorry for the previous post, I was wrong. Again. Memory fade. Sorry. The Reflectors are in my hand, and are marked -ULO- in the centre of the Red reflector part, with No135 on the side front. On the opposite front side, A in a circle, then the numbers 5108. On the long side at the top of the reflector is ~K11246. The rear of the reflector is metal, not plastic, and is a silver cad plating, I think. It's embossed with a large size ULO down one side. Down the other side is No135. The 2 pieces of angle cut mounts are grey plastic. There are two tan coloured hard rubber washers, a spring washer and the securing nut. I have a photo of all this if you're interested. Just let me know. Hope this helps. Jim.

Hello Jim,

That's alright. We all have those moments.

Thanks I would appreciate the photos. Photos of the hardware would also be a big help.
Will PM you my email.

Here's a couple of photos of the low relectors that were original ti my 60 T-5 coupe. 2nd pics show disassembly and how the plastic parts line up, and the first is as installed. Hope these help.

Now its clear that there are two plastic parts that "sandwich" the rear fender.

Thanks so much Brian.
