Correct paint color for T5 chrome wheels

#1 Post by George Alspaugh »

I am looking for the correct color to apply to the reverse side & under hubcap for T5 chrome wheels. Is it the same as A's? A photo of a wheel someone knows is correct would be appreciated. Thanks, George Alspaugh, San Diego

Hi George,
I have a set of chrome wheels dated 8/60. I'll take a couple of pictures this weekend and post them. The under-hubcap area is an off-white/beige color. I don't remember the color on the back - I think they are silver.

Thanks Mike for the response. I was beginning to wonder if anyone had chrome wheels on their cars between 1960 & 1963! Feel free to email me directly if easier for you. Thanks, George

Here you go George. Well, looking at this wheel more closely, I wouldn't say it's beige, but more on the off-white/gray side of the scale. Perhaps something along the lines of heron gray? I think the beige/yellow tint just comes from grease.
Furthermore, it looks as if the whole wheel was painted that color.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Mike

Lemmerz brand painted black in areas mentioned.

While were on the subject ...

SURVEY SAYS ... look over your collection of wheels for untouched originals (to the best of your knowledge) and report the following:

Brand: KPZ, Lemmerz, Sudrad
Date code:
Mfg'r number: like 60624A
Size marked:
Chrome or painted:
Paint color in center and back: like grey or black
Hubcap clips painted over or not: (or, N/A in case of disc brake wheels)

I will collect and collate the data and report findings. Post directly or email me bripley@nla.sparks.nv.us
