Re: Sports muffler
I used Eastwood's Stainless steel high temp spray on a recently completed restoreation with great results. This is a grey paint much like the factory's original color. I had my muffler sandblasted first and then cured the painted muffler in a powdercoating oven @ ~400 degrees for about 30 minutes. You will always get a better result by sandblasting the metal first; the oven curing is a bit overkill. I can send you pictures if you would like.
POR 15 also has a light grey high temp paint which might be another option.

Re: Sports muffler
I have "oven-cured" a bunch of mufflers now (356, early 911, 914), but i never knew it - i just ran the mufflers on the engine when dry! - it takes a few minutes to get the paint to cure up with a hot exhaust - i also have used the eastwood products, hi-heat gray, black, and stainless steel with great results - hope this helps
