Emblem Installation
To paraphrase a line from "The Rock"; Nicolas Cage asks Sean Connery: "How in the name of Zeus' butt hole" DO I get the clips on the PORSCHE badge on the rear of the car? They must have been captive because there is no human hand that is going to fit in area they would be found.
FWIW; I've found no references in the technical search areas.
The SC badge is not a problem.
Thanks.

Re: Emblem Installation
Tom,
As you already know, there's no easy solution.
Without digging out my parts manual for confirmation, I recall the clips were tack welded onto the inside of the sheet metal before fabrication of the inner engine compartment sheet metal. When the badges were removed so the car could be painted, the clips either broke or the weld failed - or both. I spent the better part of a weekend installing the Porsche badge on my coupe using a very long pair of surgical forceps to position and hold the clip in place while my wife pressed the badge in place. You'll need several extra clips as you'll invariably drop a few during the process.
Good luck!

Re: Emblem Installation
Thanks Spencer. What I expected. There is such a thing as a round pin type clip that can be pushed through from the outside but not knowing whether the badge would hide it or not is another matter. I've seen these in MC applications.
Back to the drawing board.
Best regards,
Tom

"Tubular Type Speed Clip" is the animal. Metric or standard. I'll see what I can find. Apparently they make them pretty small. Tinnerman is one manufacturer.

Re: Emblem Installation
Those 'barrel nuts' usually show and the emblem is supposed to be against the paint, not elevated. You have to enlarge the holes....not necessary;
The 'barbed' strip spot-welded to the inner tail cap inside the holes is usually just opened and can often be closed enough to capture the emblem pins. If that isn't cooperating, I 'upset' the end of the pin with either a small thin cutting wheel on a Dremel tool, a couple of nicks.....or side cutting pliers, gently.
Put the emblem in the holes and hold with masking tape. Make sure it just lays there, requiring no tension by the tape, by prebending gently with fingers.
Then, a dab of RTV on a fingertip is applied to the pin, smearing it around that pin. Let firm up and there ya go. Allow a day before removing the tape, carefully peeling laterally, peeled back over on itself. Maybe rub the tacky side of the tape over clothing to take away some sticky before you begin and tape that tape to just the paint, as the cheaper gold plating may lift off when untaped! Be careful!

Re: Emblem Installation
Sounds like a plan. Here's a photo of the tubular "speed nut". They come pretty small according to the catalog I was using.
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Emblem Installation
Seen 'em many times.....even when not supposed to.....especially if the paint (etc) is a little 'thick.' The thin neck undercut has a problem laying in the hole and elevates.....it's a new day, Tom.....there IS a better way!

Re: Emblem Installation
I reckon you could "mill" the area to countersink them.
