#1 Post by Tom Bridgers »

What do you use for these when one has given up (broken)?

Thanks,

Where?

On the fan housings, I remove old traces of the braze and make a new tab like the broken example, pre-bend it and attach that with a pop-rivet prior to paint. When the wires pass through and captured, they hide the rivet ... and if that breaks again, the rivet is easily removed for replacement.

In more hidden areas, a tek screw can be used, a rivet, or a small Adele clamp, or......but be careful not to drill into anything on the opposite side...like a gas tank's underside!

Down the side of the trunk where the harness runs toward the front of the car. I think there are 3 there.

Thanks!

Tom, those are spotwelded on about 3 or 4 layers of panel edges. If welding is not an option, you can drill through there and probably go outside the trunk into the front wheelwell. A rivet can be disguised there, if flattened, but put some black 'spooge' over that area to seal it and it'll never be seen. Just cut some thin metal into an appropriate strip(s) and paint it(them) black.
