Derrington Steering Wheel?

#1 Post by Miles Richardson »

Can somebody please help me determine if this is a real Derrington or not? It was on a 356 A. Most of the Derrington's I have seen have had aluminum hubs, but I have heard of black wrinkle finishes like this one here.

That is a real Derrington. The finish is as it should be. The back of the hub is a bit different than I am used to seeing, though. It may have been made in the 80s. that is purely a guess on my part. I am including a couple of pictures of a period correct Derrington hub for a 356A. The polished aluminum hubs were made much later and many are repros, not the real thing like yours.

I bought a reproduction Derrington from Gary Emory in the early to mid 1980's. It has the wrinkle finish and the same type of fasteners on the portion of the hub facing the dash, same as yours. The top surface of the hub on mine is also wrinkle finish.

Gary

I pretty sure that the wheel that you bought from Gary was not a "reproduction" but a Derrington produced in the 80s.
