53 Coupe : 11994; Heater tube "perforations"

#1 Post by Mark Tirpak »

Can anyone offer insight on these holes in the heater tube on this 53 Coupe. The rear holes are most certainly supposed to be there but the ones located on the inside of the heater tube seem factory but what could the use of them be?? It seems that a car with marginal heat at best could use this extra heated air to help! Any help would be appreciated!

These hot air holes did a wonderful job of eliminating moisture and rust in the chassis structure.

Ya know I thought this myself but, An uninsulated tube will radiate a considerable amount heat by itself wouldn't it? Were the engineers actually using them for this I wonder? Do you have any docs to solidify this CJ? Or, is this an educated guess?

The joke is this...the metal that should have been protected is rusted away, gone.

I don't know why the holes are there but with a car that old you may not have the factory original piece anyway.

Well as you can see from the pics, it is getting a considerable amount of repair. The car is going on its 3rd round of longitudinals, so I guess some primer after sandblast will be the next form of rust inhibitor for this car. Holes will be filled, as long as the owner accepts this.
