Can you help us with the fuse package differences? Below is a shot of my original ones in my travel kit. I believe there were both Pudenz and Autosicherungen reproductions?
Yes, I'll explain the differences in both of those as well:
Autosicherungen: On the Autosicherungen fuse boxes I did not umlaut the 'ü' in Stück on the sides of the box as on the originals. On my reproductions the word appears as 'Stuck'.
I did not make any intentional changes in the Pudenz packs although the plastic has the clarity that a 40-50 year old piece of plastic does not retain as you can see below.

Jim I agree with you.Jim Breazeale wrote:I'll take the repro any day!

There are examples of NOS parts which have no business being on our cars. Parts such as brake lines. If that should fail, the results could be fatal to us. Rubber will age and fail with time. Tires, samething as brake hoses.
So in these cases, one should use modern new stuff instead of going for exact authenticity.

Moving on to things of serious significance...

You didn't tell me there was going to be a quiz first thing in the morning. At least it's multiple choice. Uh, B?

Re: Difference between Reproduction and Original items
A clever answer, Vic, since none are lettered. It's not the middle pad.
Were all original pedal pads made by Continental? Only some? How about Happich? VW? Semperit? If there were different manufacturers, which were most common for the various 356 models?

I took a look at my "62 T 6 and the one on the left matches exactly and it is original.

Ray, you are correct.
There are obviously very few Porsche pedal pad experts left in this world, but hopefully this thread will be preserved for future generations.

Damn; another quiz. The only thing I can see is the difference in size of the bottom triangle. What else did I miss? A little mud from a dirty shoe, and you'll never notice.

Vic
The keys to the originality are:
1. the ends of the chevrons that end at the circle are round.
2. the depth of the circular depression is deeper than the one on the right.
3. the most subtle is the difference in the apex of the bottom chevron, the original one has a wee bit sharper apex.
That said you've got to look real close to see much difference between the right and left cover.
For anyone wanting the ultimate in originality, I've got a few liters of ORIGINAL AIR left in the tires that dates from the mid sixties and will grudgingly trade the air for oh lets say a '62 roadster S90 to match my coupe. Sorry but the fuel, oil and brake fluid are already gone.

Re: Difference between Reproduction and Original items
Does that mean that the pedal rubbers on the left sell for $800 versus $3 for the others? I am not trying to offend, but I keep thinking of the price for original glycerin bottles.

Re: Difference between Reproduction and Original items
Hoping to save this thread from a hijack.
Please keep this thread focused on differences between the way reproduction parts and original ones. Not cost or function or availability discussion- please put that in a different subject.
To help put us a little back on track, here is a copy of a photo sent to me by Wil Mittlebach. It is the fuse pack that came with his 65 356 C Cab. Different than mine, and very well suited to address the need for two fuse sizes required in the car.
