Foot dimmer switches
Found three variations of foot dimmer switches
'1' has a black box under the mount flange and screw terminals
'2' has bullet terminals
'3' has spade terminals
Approk what era is each?

Re: Foot dimmer switches
Ken
#2 is the one that I am most familiar with, it comes in most, if not all 356As. #3 is not from any 356, that I am aware of. #1 could be from a very early PreA. I don't ever recall seeing one like that, though.
Regards

Jim,
I tend to believe that #3 may be VW.
Thanks..
The more I think I know the less I find I actually know...

Re: Foot dimmer switches
How interesting that no.1 has its relay attached..... That's pretty neat.
Surely this would be distinctive on a wiring diag. or parts book.
Keep 'em flying...

Re: Foot dimmer switches
No. 3 would be VW from about 1959-60 on.
Early VW had screw terminals and earlier again had a round base.

Number one is the same as the one on our 1951 (built late 1950).

Re: Foot dimmer switches
From the 53 Parts Book, the dimmer switch in the Parts Diagram (#18), looks like Ken's #1,
part number #356.62.016, Foot Dimmer Switch.

Re: Foot dimmer switches
It seems there's another version. The three I found in my shop are all identical and look different than the ones Ken posted. I'm pretty sure they all came out of A speedsters years ago. Somebody have a picture?
Maybe I'll bring one in and have Barbara take a photo and figure out this posting stuff. If Ken can do it!

Re: Foot dimmer switches
Fuse block number 1 is from a very early car. There is no relay inside the "box" just mechanical connections. #2 is was used until 1958 or 9 then #2-A had bullet connectors and was probably used in the T-2 it looked the same as #2. Finally #3 is from a VW 1961 through 1965 (or when the went to the headlight dimmer on the turn signal switch. al zizm
