SC GT Gas Tank

#1 Post by Tom Bridgers »

I've seen a GT tank painted Black in a SC GT. I've also seen one painted Gray. What would the consensus say is correct? The Black one is in a car with very good provenance.
The red car I'm familiar with too but it didn't always have the GT Tank in it. When I originally drove it there was a Fuel Safe installed.
Not too sure the mat belongs in there either. Wasn't weight savings what it was all about?

Thanks.

Tom

Tom

All of the large tanks that I have seen in T6 cars were painted black, for what that is worth.

The "GT" tank is painted black but far too shiny, in my opinion. the other tank in your picture is not a "GT" tank but a regular tank and appears to have been restored and painted properly. The regualr tanks were painted grey unless it is a early T6 tank with a "bottom" sender. those were painted black.

The tank you refer to in this post is more commonly known as the 70 litre "touring" tank. The true T6 GT 110 litre tank requires a thru-the-hood filler. My old `62 Carrera GT had the big tank with its original black paint......bb#467

Mine is an untouched tank and it is a low gloss originally from the factory painted black. The plastic tank cover was trimmed at the factory where a portion was removed from it to allow for the taller tank. Alsom the insulation is original horse-hair-like pad material which has started to fall apart some :( . BTW, the black tank pictured in the first part of the post looks too glossy. :? Hope this helps. 8)
