Generator Brush Cover Strap for Large Generators?

#1 Post by Greg Spreeman »

I see the brush cover straps for the smaller generators but, I don't see them for the large generators. Do they make them? Who sells them?

Greg

The large generators came on 68 and 69 912s. Some of them had plastic plugs that fit in the holes for the brushes, but most did not come with anything. They just seem to be random. They never had a band like the smaller 356 generators, though.

the part you want is very common and cheap. it is a bosch part used on vw 12volt generators in the late 1960's and 70's. it is a simple plastic pop in item and can be found at many vw recyclers or vw swapmeet/shows for next to nothing. part is known for drying out-going brittle and falling off(or worse-pieces falling into the generator). at a 356/912 meet in san mateo last year about 3 of the dozen or so 912's still had theirs in place-everyone was owww-ahhhh that this 'rare' item was still there.
