ID knob with key

#1 Post by John Wurner » Thu Jan 16, 2020 2:39 pm

I would like to know what this unusual key was intended for?
Thanks, John

Looks like an ignition key.

It does but I have never seen one in this format.
It does not look home made either.

John
Did you "restore" the knob. It doesn't have the sharp edges like new ones.

No, it came to me this way with other parts.
Jim, have you seen these before?

No, I haven't seen one before. Just wondered about the knob. It doesn't have the definition of a new original knob and the traditional method of "restoring" these knobs is to fasten them to a threaded stem and rotate them in a drill press which takes away some of the sharp edge definition. Not possible with a key embedded in it. Interesting.

I was thinking someone fabricated this and somehow stashed it as a hide-a-key or a valet key.

...or maybe just left the key in the ignition switch so that it appeared to just be a headlight or wiper switch button.
