Blaupunkt Speaker Wire Connection at the Radio

#1 Post by Sebastian Gaeta »

Greetings all,

I have a blaupunkt that I will be installing in my coupe and need help with the speaker wire connection at the radio.

Charlie White's excellent website shows 4 speaker connection holes on the left side of the Blaupunkt radio (Charlie, I hope it is OK to use this photo--let me know if you want it removed!):

Image

My Blaupunkt radio has the holes on the right side and there are only 3 of them:

And here is the speaker wire:

I actually have two speaker wires/connectors but it appears that I only need one of them. It also appears that I would use the one connector in the middle and left side holes, based on the schematic above the holes as I have two speakers to connect. Is this correct?

If so, then is there a splitter that I would use to connect two speakers? Just how in the heck do I connect two speakers in this scenario?

Thanks so much!!

Why yes there is a factory splitter. I post a pic in a few min....... :)

Well I guess not.......I thought I knew right where it was but it is NOT in the box of radio wiring parts I thought it was in............ I know it is here somewhere so I will look closer this weekend.

I've always interpreted the diagram stamped on the radio as indicating that the left pair of holes are for two speakers in parallel, which would give you half the impedance of a single speaker.

That's how speakers would go into a 356. You shouldn't need a "splitter" unless it's something to run the wires in an elegant fashion. Just join the speaker wires so that each terminal on the radio connects to n terminal on each speaker.

Warning: I have electrical engineering degrees from nearly 25 years ago but I've done only systems and software engineering since.

Dave,

Thanks for the heads up on the splitter. Let me know if the one you have is available as I know that I do not have one.

I will also post a "Wanted" ad in the classifieds as well.

Thanks!

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply. Could you explain this to me again as I am not picturing it very well. Will I have just one wire at each speaker?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Sebastian,

You can build one very easily. Look at the diagram on the power supply. If you use one speaker only use the single plug in the righ two holes in the picture. If you use two speakers keep them hooked up with the positive in the first and third holes (right to left)and the negative wires spliced together in the middle hole. That is all the splitter is. It is a factory three pin plug and two wires are spliced together and you get a pigtail to pulg each speaker into. On the earlier power supplies it has both a negitive and positive for each speaker thus four holes.

Hi Dave,

I'm not much of an expert on electronics, so it sounds like the splitter is the way to go for me as I'm just not picturing how to DIY.

If you find that splitter and it is available, let me know!!!

Thanks,
