-- HOW TO CONTACT FORUM MEMBERS DIRECTLY
TO ALL FORUM MEMBERS:
Rather than posting to the Forum that you want to contact someone or
are "looking for" someone, please log in to the Forum and click the
"Memberlist" link at the top of every Forum web page. Then in the top
pulldown menu "Select sort method" click and select "Username", then
click the "Sort" button on the right.
Now you have an alphabetized list of all Forum members. In this case,
to find Bill Block, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the
"Next" link. The resulting page shows "Bill Block".
Next to every member name is an "email" button and a "pm" button.
Click either to send that member a message. One method sends it via
email, the other "private message" method sends it to them through
the Forum.
By following this procedure you do not have to post a message to the
list that goes out to the over 1,000 members, you can contact the
member you are looking for directly.
It's faster because you don't have to wait and hope they see your
post, and easy to do unless the Forum member has chosen a username
that is not their actual name.
Yet another advantage of using a real name for a Forum username.
People can communicate with you! BUT THEY CAN'T SEE YOUR EMAIL
ADDRESS UNLESS YOU REPLY VIA EMAIL. If you never want to reveal your
email address, simply use the "pm" method.
Best regards,
Barry Brisco

Hi Dan,
There is no rapid way to jump to a particular letter in the Forum
Memberlist. Note that on the first page of listings, when you sort by
username, at the bottom of the page it shows:
Goto page 1, 2, 3 ... 19, 20, 21 Next
So just estimating, if I want to find Bill Block I would click "2" in
that list. If I want to find the "S" members I would click "19" and
see where that gets me.
I agree that it could be faster. But within about one minute I can
navigate to any page in that sequence of 21 pages. I don't consider
that a lengthy process. It's certainly faster than posting "Will so
and so please contact me" and then waiting, possibly for hours or
days, for that person to do so.
Forum users on dial up will obviously have to spend more time
searching the Memberlist. I'm sorry about that, but everything
online is slow on dial up.

At this time there are at least 21 pages of names. Is there a way
to search or to "go to" the "B's" for Bill Block for example?

If the person has made a post to the forum, all you need to do is go to "Search" and type in the persons name in the "by author" section. It will pull up all posts they wrote. From there, you can send a PM or an email.Barry Brisco wrote:Hi Dan,

If they never posted before, you gotta do it the old fashioned way.

Most standard BBS programs have a pulldown menu that let's you search for a member name by "Begins With"....it may be there, or it needs to be added by the admins....

Kevin, that's a good tip, thanks!
On the search page, under "Search for Author:" it says
Use * as a wildcard for partial matches
That means that if you only know the last name of the person you are
searching for, for example "Block", enter this in the "Search for
Author:" box
*Block
Then click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page. Now you
will find all posts by Forum members whose username ends in "Block".
