Apart from cleaning it, replacing the rubber boots and putting in a new bearings and seals, anything else to be done? I am not refering to opening it up.
Thanks

Unless you *must* do something, I wouldn't touch it. You can change the boots, but that's pretty much guaranteed to get you some leakage. Changing the bearings (outer ones?) means you stand the chance of pulling the axels too far out; taking it apart is next. Cleaning it? Yep; soap and water.
OK, input seal; you can change that.
Thanks,

Rafik,
"Well, the D is getting a full resto and the trans looks a bit
dirty, etc. So I want to give it a face lift basically. What about
painting the axle tubes and backing plates using Por 15?"
You can do that, but it's real hard to 'just' paint something. You need to clean it first, and in the case of a transaxel, that cleaning can cause further problems unless you're pretty knowledgeable about the thing. Who's doing the resto? You should talk to them; if they're good, they'll know how far to go.
Thanks,
Ron LaDow
