Tachometer cable and gearbox

#1 Post by Luis Martins »

Hi,
I'm making some repairs in a 1951 Pre-A 356 of a friend. the car as a tachometer in the dashboard and with the old stuf, came a very bad condition tach cable. I bought a brand new one but now I can't find the place in the gearbox to fit it. Can you give to me a clue?

thanks in advance

p.s. where can I see the gearbox number?

Do you have your terms correct? You refer to a tachometer.....and then refer to the gear box. The tachometer measures RPM from the engine and is driven off the "tachometer drive" off the oil pump, at the rear of the engine. If you mean the speedometer........it is driven off the left front wheel. If you find a spedometer drive on your gear box...you have a 911!

At the extreme rear of the *engine*, down low. It's driven off the rear of the oil pump.
