Holy Cra??
When it gets down to personal insults, I know that an amateur is writing.
Most mechanics today only know how to replace a module. A few are " talented".
I weld, do sheet metal, machine, do electronics and have a dog. So?
So if I were going to start cutting up a 356 to put in a 901 trans (I looked at doing so),
I just go the whole hog and put the engine in the middle too!!!
If I'd change a 356, there are a million neat VW hot rod items from IRS, big discs, big engines. Why buy old stuff?
Actually, in 1962, I had a spare Speedster (HA!!) I bought for $150. I cut out the torsion bars and rear floor, and stuffed a 327 Chevy engine mid engine. No torsion bars, made a Corvette type rear IRS with springs for it and had a nice stop sign challenger.
If you want a Porsche, but want it different than stock, get a 914 or 911 or kit car.
I have rodded three 356s , first was my 54 that I raced, second was the 62 with the 2" Chevy valves (for street) and my C that I put he 300HP Corvair in in 1966 and drove for 15 years without any maintenance.
Now, for the cost of 356s, I'll make a RS718 Kit car for my rodding.

64ISO Rivolta GT300 (Corvette Eng.), 74 ISO Lele (351C), Berkeley 328 Stock, Berkeley328 going electric 4WD, 58 Speedster in process, 64 C nearly on the road again with 741 trans and 2300CC engine.
See ma, no cutting.

My favorite retort when I parked my homebuilt Speedster at a Concour, I needed some laughs
Some weener came up and said I couldn't park it next to his personally built 100 point or whatever first in class ride because his trailer was soon to arrive.....
I told him I built mine in my own shop, I drove it here and I can park it anywhere I want....and judging from your manicure you just wrote a check....

It's not a Speedster.
Thanks,

Not interested in starting a debate on the replica topic....but to make you happy...since that IS my life's true meaning...I'll call it a "Ron"......
It has NO logos beyond Empi hubcaps....I never tell anyone it's anything but a home built "Speedster"....er...Ron.....it gets 35mpg, has 155hp, and I don't have to mortgage my first born to buy a part....because all the parts I need are on the shelf.

"Ron" is in the public domain also. If you want to call it that, I don't have any problem. But if you call it a Speedster on the 356 list/forum, expect to be called on it regardless of various legal technicalities/only "some" badges/etc.
Thanks,
Ron LaDow

Ron & Mike-
You both have great talent and enjoy your cars. Many would suggest that I have totally destroyed my 356 with all the modifications made to it. The bottom line is we all enjoy the cars and each of us have different views. Remember the slang " Mox Nix" life is too short to bicker!

Speedsters
The term 'Speedster' was coined long before any of our Poorsheees ever existed. Model T Speedster, Auburn Boattail Speedster etc. You don't want to get those guys started on the origin or the appropriate use of the term.
Speedsters
Ron,
I mean no offense but it seems a bit disingenuous for you to be the champion of correctness here when none of your EXCELLENT products are 'correct' for our cars. You make a living by designing and selling products that once installed, negate the 'authenticity' of the subject car.
Thus it is with new SPEEDSTERS, the good ones are better than the old and they make the experience available to a much wider audience.
