Hello everybody,
Just one little question:
Who can restore a 4 cam engine in the USA?
Thank you

4 cam mechanics
Gerard McCarthy just posted this to the old email list, thought it would be good to put on the Forum so the information will be archived and searchable.
Oliver:
I am the former owner of Kam Motorspors, and retired 2 years ago after specializing in 4 cam for 15 years, and working on these engines since 1957. There are 3 people with who do this for a living, not a side-line or hobby, and have great knowledge and experience.
Jeff Adams @ Farnbacher-Loles, Danbury, CT 203-798-2929
Bill Doyle @ Rennwagen Motorwerkes, Jackson Hole, WY. 307-733-9918
Vern Crotts @ Carrerasports in Tallahassee FL. 850-224-7267
I have known and trusted each of these men for years.

4 Cam Restoration
Here's another with a reputation for impeccable workmanship. He did the engines of several of Gerry Sutterfield's cars. It's been years, but I recall his shop as spotless and deliberate.

Alan at The Stable in San Francisco rebuilds fourcams. I have personally seen him rebuild two of them recently. They are not my motors but a friend of mine's. He's on the list maybe he'll chime in.

Contact information for The Stable
Dan didn't include Alan's contact info, so here it is:
Alan Klingen
The Stable
1700 Pine Street
San Francisco, CA

I have also seen Alan working on 4-cam engines in his shop (he does all the work on my 59 coupe though I attempt to do the routine maintenance myself, with varying degrees of success ;-).
It is truly an amazing sight to see a 4-cam being put together.

Also well known as a builder of performance 4-cam motors (rather than cosmetic-concours cars) is Jacques Le Friant in National City (San Diego) jacquesl@netzero.com (jacquesl@netzero.com).

I would agree with Stu. Billy Doyle would get my vote, particularly as Gerry McCarthy is out of the business. Close call otherwise, given KAM"s proximity to Greenwich, but not now.Stuart Zeh wrote:Bill Doyle gets my vote every time. He did mine for a great price - in the requested amount of time. He even parted with some super-rare parts that I would have killed myself trying to find....
Doyle is the MAN.
