Weber 40 idf parts

#1 Post by Jerry Powell »

Does anyone have a used original weber they can sell me?
I need the starter valve spring, retaining guide and washer--two of each.
Am willing to buy a complete carb if the parts are not available to cannibalize them.

I'm sure you have a plan for the Webers.
Are you aware that Porsche doesn't use the starter Valve (choke) as it's not necessary with the short direct manifolds.

Pierce Manifolds in Morgan Hill has been an excellent source for Weber parts for decades. I've long wondered about the name, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they started hot rodding in the 1950's. They are often at the Lit meet.

Mike--Checked CB Per. Have a call in to Berg.
Phil-Have Email to Pierce.
Norm--Are you saying I could remove the starter valve w/o any negative operational effect?

My Webers do not have the starter system. If yours do, my understanding is you need it intact so ad not to constantly flood engine with extra fuel. But there may be a way to block this. I think Redline has a good web site showing all the parts, non of which they sell as they are a distributor. But you should be able to find part nos. you need and call Pierce to order. Get all you need at once as shipping is a little pricey from Pierce. You could search for the parts on eBay as Pierce also sells there with free shipping. Go figure.

Jerry,
You need to see Frank Meek's article on blocking off the cold start system on the Weber IDF40:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19426&p=85887&hilit ... art#p85887

I know why you need those parts, as they are prone to fly across the room when you are taking apart the Weber IDF40 for whatever reason.
When the split retainer lets go of the hole it's pressed into, the spring below propels itself and the little hat-like thingy out of the hole and possibly into your eye.
Don't ask how I know.

But I can't find a tel # for him, just a fax # and I don't have a fax.
Tel. # would be appreciated.
Thanks--Jerry

Dave--Thats it, really appreciate your help and everyone else who chimed in--ordered two from Ebay.
If I learned anything, its not to use an air hose to clean your carb while on the lawn.
I would still like to understand Norm's point about not needing a starter valve but I will install the new ones and get back
to continue the carb cleaning---but in the garage and to pay more attention to where I blow the air.
