Hello all,
In an effort to save some costs on a paint job I decided to remove and reinstall many exterior and some interior bits.
Windshield removal? A new windshield with Goodrich top and bottom seals was installed about 2-3 years ago on the first try with four men doing it.
If the two side posts are loosened and the tension bar that the mirror is attached to is loosened, shouldn't the whole deal just lift up and away?
I will not be doing this just want to know what to tell the others that will remove it.
Also I would like to re-chrome the two side posts and my two door handles. You can see there is pitting on the thumb push button on the handles.
Can I expect this damage to go away with re chroming? Also note the silver touch up paint on side posts from gauge.
My other question has to do with removing the three dash gauges and driving the car. As long as I mark the wires where they go and use electrical tape to cover exposed ends, do I need to worry about anything else? On the same note if this body is stripped of most everything and I drive a distance to body shop what to do if CHP law enforcement pulls me over because most legal bits are missing short of tail lights?

I've stripped down several cars prior to paint including my own '63 coupe. I can't speak for removing the bottom windshield frame. Some remove it; some don't. I'll let those with more experience weigh in.
Door handles: disassemble and chrome but have a very good shop with familiarity do them. Too much brass, nickel and chrome will affect how they fit and work. I recommend Jose at Christensen's Chrome in Vernon, CA.
I remove everything else including upholstery (assuming you are redoing it), defroster vents, script, badges, gauges, lights, hood handle, etc., etc. Depending upon the distance to the psint shop, I'd recommend having the car trailered there.

Disconnect the blue and yellow wire from the ignition switch and the wire going to the rheostat on the headlight switch that should take care of most of the electrics. You need to have someone professional to remove the windshield and it probably will crack. Plating will probably not remove the blemishes in the chrome. You have a valuable car and the proper paint will be expensive. If the paint is not correct it is money thrown away forthe work and the value of the vehicle. al
